Life in 67 in2 of cage space

Wegmans boasts that their hens have at least 67 in2 of cage space each — an area smaller than the bottom of a shoebox. The hens are packed together like this for their entire lives, up to seven per cage, unable to stretch their wings or engage in natural behaviors like nesting, dust-bathing, foraging, or roosting.

This photo was taken from video footage of an investigation of the Wegmans Egg Farm conducted by Compassionate Consumers in the summer of 2004.
