Ask Wegmans to phase out battery cages!
3,898 signatures and counting...Along with the Humane Society of the U.S. we're asking Danny Wegman to stop selling eggs from cruel “battery” cages. A company that claims to be an industry leader in animal welfare shouldn't be inflicting unnecessary cruelty. Other large grocery chains have already phased out battery-cage eggs. Why can't Wegmans?
Please add your voice: We'll print out your signatures and deliver them to Wegmans headquarters in Rochester, New York.

| 2010-03-08 | Martin Dodge | Canandaigua, NY | Wegmans Canandaigua | I am really disappointed to discover how insensitive the Wegman's egg operation actually is. This seems so out of character, I wonder if other animal operations might be as bad. I hereby pledge to cease purchase of Wegman's eggs! |

| 2010-01-29 | Gail Berlese Brown | Bridgewater, NJ | Wegmans Bridgewater | I am appalled and will never shop here again. I thought Wegmans was different. |
| 2010-01-24 | Private | North Collins, NY | Wegmans McKinley | If this is how your hens are treated, what about the beef, pork and other animal products you sell? I'll be spending my money at Tops and Duink Farms (Hamburg). |
| 2010-01-17 | Private | New York, NY | And after seeing this video I wouldn't dream of going into Wegmans for anything. The great U.S.A. needs to upgrade the humane side. Its no where near humane when you see what's happening in industrial agriculture. | |
| 2010-01-12 | Amy Rosechandler | Rochester, NY | Wegmans East Ave | I won't buy eggs or any dairy products from Wegman's until they change their policy And I will discourage people I know from buying from there. I have convinced a lot of people already! |
| 2010-01-09 | John La Rosa | PA | Wegmans Harrisburg West | I was very disappointed to read about Wegman's regressive egg production practices. Please recognize that many people choose to shop at Wegman's because of it's reputation as a progressive company with a wide range of natural, organic, and ethically produced products. Live up to the reputation or you will surely lose many customers. We insist on cruelty-free, free-range, organic-fed chickens and eggs. Thank you. |
| 2010-01-05 | Private | Somerville, NJ | Wegmans Bridgewater | Wegman's is my favorite grocery store for many reasons but it was disturbing to see the unhealthy conditions in which these chickens lived. Even more disturbing is the thought that their poor health and lack of nutrition is then being passed on to the consumer some of whom are my children. I will no longer purchase Wegman's eggs until I'm sure this situation is rectified. |
| 2010-01-05 | Private | Rochester, NY | Wegmans Pittsford | |
| 2010-01-02 | Angelique Santimaw | Canton, NY | Wegmans Canandaigua | When we visit family in the area we shop at Wegmans. What is happening is cruel and if the company is family oriented and responsible, this should have stopped already. But as usual, the almighty dollar overrules humaneness. Shame on you Danny Wegman! |
| 2009-12-31 | Michelle Smith | Minoa, NY | Wegmans James St | My husband and I are regular Wegman's shoppers. I try to buy cruelty-free eggs whenever possible. I am disappointed you would condone such an inhumane practice. If you do not stop and begin implementing humane alternatives, I will stop frequenting your stores. |

| 2009-12-23 | Private | Jamesville, NY | Wegmans Dewitt | Per above, I was not aware that your eggs were from Battery caged hens. Please find a source for this product where the chickens are treated humanely. I did not think this was something Wegman's would do. Thank you Gloria Fear |
| 2009-12-17 | Private | Syracuse, NY | Wegmans Dewitt | For a company that claims to do so much for the farmers, what about the animals?? |
| 2009-12-17 | Natalie Lang | State College, PA | Wegmans State College | This is horrendous!! I'm showing this video to everyone I know. |
| 2009-12-15 | S. Lindquist | PEARLAND, TX | Wegmans Pittsford | My son went to RIT, so I found you there. I thought you were good. Found this website and now I know. It's easy to be kind to animals. I hope that you try and change your ways. |
| 2009-12-13 | Athena Rosendo | Springville, NY | This is cruelty. Wegmans is supposed to be the example for grocery stores. Now finding this information out, needless to say, you just lost a once loyal customer. | |
| 2009-12-12 | Tara Rice | Farmington, NY | Wegmans Canandaigua | Wow. I thought Wegmans was a company with a conscience. I have been buying your omega eggs, but I won't be purchasing Wegmans eggs until I have proof that these practices have stopped. Good thing I have an organic farmer with free range chickens up the road. |

| 2009-12-07 | Private | Rochester, NY | Wegmans Marketplace | As an important contributor to the local economy, it is your duty to stop the unjust practices that you are doing. |
| 2009-11-22 | Susan Terwilliger | Ithaca, NY | Wegmans Ithaca | I currently do not buy eggs when I shop at Wegmans because there are no options to buy cruelty free eggs. I believe that Wegmans is an industry leader and could really benefit from setting up a relationship with a small, local egg farmer in the central NYS area. Care needs to be taken in evaluating the facility to ascertain that the hens are not confined in large, overcrowded areas which are just as inhumane as cages, just so the label "free range" can be put on the box. Again small local farmers are the best choice. |
| 2009-11-21 | Private | JOHNSON CITY, NY | Wegmans Johnson City | PLEASE DO YOUR PART IN CORRECTING THIS OUTRAGEOUSLY CRUEL ACT AGAINST ANOTHER LIVING BEING. |
| 2009-11-21 | Private | Amherst, NY | Wegmans Alberta Drive | This is seriously depressing. And I thought I hit rock bottom after watching Food, Inc. Wegmans is a company that I have grown to depend on and trust as a contributor to change and improvement in an industry unimaginably deficient in animal welfare and environmental sustainability; learning how they treat these chickens is truly heartbreaking. I understand cents on the dollar adds up, but I don't shop at Wegmans because of their low prices. Its because I trust, as an individual largely incapable of changing the minds of corporate directors, that I might make a small difference in how animals are treated and how agriculture is performed. As a consumer of one to two eggs a day, and student who pays for coffee with pocket change that way I don't disturb the moths in my wallet, it certainly wouldn't kill me to spend a few extra dimes on a carton of eggs. |
| 2009-11-14 | Regan Caton | Mountain Lakes, | Wegmans Bridgewater | I will never shop here again, you people are sick and inhumane! |
| 2009-11-11 | Private | New York, NY | Wegmans Corning | The chickens! |
| 2009-11-09 | Zachary Baker | New York, NY | Your decision to stop selling cruelly produced eggs would be an important and welcome contribution to the purpose of steering society towards a sane and healthy existence. | |
| 2009-11-07 | Leslie Billet | Downingtown, PA | Wegmans Downingtown | Please give us a cruelty free option. thank you. |
| 2009-11-06 | patricia salazar | scranton, pa | Wegmans Scranton | I spend at least 140.00 per week at wegmans I hope you will do the humane and stop selling these eggs. |
| 2009-11-03 | Doreen Puchalski | Scranton, PA | Wegmans Scranton | |
| 2009-10-31 | ELIZABETH SOBEL | Lansdale, PA | Wegmans Warrington | I used to like Wegmans for what they appeared to represent. However, I have always bought my chicken and eggs from a farm half an hour away...this video is a confirmation of why to support mom & pop farms. Wegmans should be embarrassed - this is hypocritical and shameful behavior. |
| 2009-10-30 | Jennifer Gaughan | New Buffalo, MI | SHUT HIM DOWN!!!! | |
| 2009-10-28 | Private | Fogelsville, PA | Wegmans Allentown | This is shocking!!! I buy 99% of my food from Wegmans, mostly organic and natural. Reading about this cruelty makes me rethink about buying products from your store. Please stop using Battery Cages!!!! I will not buy your eggs until this changes. Thank you! |
| 2009-10-21 | Mark Fogle | Downingtown, Pa | Wegmans Downingtown | I live in Downingtown, PA, and I am now a ex Wegmans shopper. I'm going back to Trader Joes, their stores might not be as big, but to be honest, I only shop the outside and skip the aisles as most of that is processed crap, or bath, paper and dishware products (who the heck buys that stuff at Wegmans???) So all I need is fruit, veggies, sushi, fish, and milk and eggs, and nuts and seeds. I can buy all that at Trader Joes, and Produce Junction, and for a better price. I'm sure my little loss to them don't mean a hill of beans, but for my own well being I'm not contributing to their greedy methods. They don't have to answer to me, but Karma will get everyone, everytime. Hope the owners come back as chickens in the next life! |
| 2009-10-14 | Private | Woodbridge, CT | Wegmans Ridgemont | My family live in Rochester and Hornell areas; when I am there I shop at Wegmans. When I used to live there I shopped at Wegmans for ,many years. Other states are adopting an end to cruel battery cage operations and so should Wegmans. I will make sure that all of my friends and family in areas serviced by Wegmans are aware of it condoning this horrible practice so they may act their consciences as well! I always liked Wegmans but now I feel a bit dirty knowing this... |

Other states are adopting an end to cruel battery cage operations and so should Wegmans. | 2009-10-09 | Kevin Kanellakis | Rego Park, NY | I lived in Rochester for four years as a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and was continually blown away by how friendly and inviting Wegmans is. This kind of practice is shocking and disgusting, especially for a company like Wegmans. So much so that I almost didn't believe it. You owe it to your consumers who buy into your reputation and the animals you mistreat to change this immediately! | |
| 2009-10-07 | Private | Spinnerstown, PA | Wegmans Warrington | I will no longer shop at Wegmans until this practice is stopped. |
