Along with the Humane Society of the U.S. we're asking Danny Wegman to stop selling eggs from cruel “battery” cages. A company that claims to be an industry leader in animal welfare shouldn't be inflicting unnecessary cruelty. Other large grocery chains have already phased out battery-cage eggs. Why can't Wegmans?

I've watched the documentaries and I am appalled! No animal should be treated in this manner; I believe all chickens as well as other farm animals should be able to roam as it is healthier. A mistreated animal makes it very unhealthy for people as these stressful conditions bring changes to body chemistry. Furthermore, these unsanitary conditions the chickens are kept in is not, by any means, healthy for people who are eating their eggs. This is animal abuse, and therefore, keeping these chickens in such horrible conditions as well as confining them to such tiny cages should be illegal. |

I am a huge animal advocate, and although I have not yet become a full vegetarian, I refuse to consume animals, or their by-products when they have been treat so inhumanly. There is no reason for this, except for the selfishness of man. If people could only feel the pain these animals go through, maybe each one wold take a stand against the abuse. The production may be slower and cost higher, but each animal, including all farm animals should be respected and live a normal life, free to move, be in a clean environment, and free from all pain. |
